PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
The Constructivist Classroom
I believe that students should have learning experiences that are active, tactile, and extend far beyond the textbook. My role as an educator is not simply to transmit content, but to facilitate a safe, intellectually rigorous environment where students have the agency to cultivate their own knowledge. In my classroom, I prioritize conceptual understanding over rote memorization, ensuring students aren't just learning "what" to think, but "how" to think.
The Power of Collective Discovery
Rooted in a constructivist view, I encourage students to "experiment" with mathematical and logical concepts before a formal procedure is ever introduced. I believe there is immense value in allowing students to investigate a problem, test their own theories, and share their unique perspectives. We then work as a collective to refine these diverse ideas, synthesizing them into a formal process or procedure. This collaborative refinement proves to students that their intuition has value and that the most robust solutions are often the result of diverse, iterative thinking.
Mistakes as Data Points
I strive to instill a growth mindset where mistakes are never viewed as failures, but as essential "data points" on the path to a solution. By providing an open-minded and non-judgmental space for the investigation of concepts, I allow students to blossom into independent thinkers. Through structured scaffolding and differentiated instruction, I help students construct their own theories, building the collaboration and self-confidence necessary to navigate our increasingly complex world.
Engineering the Future
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." The students in my classroom are the future of innovation. I believe in fostering a passion for inquiry and the resilience to tackle complex, high-level analytical challenges. By exposing students to the same level of computational rigor found in modern industry and academia, I prepare them to be well-rounded individuals capable of independent interpretation.
